Expected Star Overdrive Release Date
The Star Overdrive release date for Nintendo Switch has been confirmed for 2025, but a specific date has yet to be revealed.
The Star Overdrive release date for PC has yet to be announced, but considering that the game is a timed exclusive for the Nintendo Switch, we assume that the PC release will be set sometime after. Star Overdrive for Xbox Series X/S and the PS5 has not been confirmed.
While this isn’t the best news for Xbox and PlayStation gamers, a possible release for those consoles isn’t entirely out of the question just yet. We’ll keep you updated when we know more.
Star Overdrive Pre-orders
As of now, Star Overdrive pre-orders are not active. Of course, Star Overdrive was only revealed in late August, and we speculate that pre-orders and possible bonuses for pre-orders will appear as soon as the release date approaches—but this is currently pure speculation.
Currently, Star Overdrive has not appeared on the Nintendo Store, so players cannot show the developers their interest in the game by putting it on their wishlist. However, this isn’t the case for Star Overdrive PC players, who can wishlist the game on Steam right now. If you’re looking to nab the game and follow it throughout its release cycle, we recommend doing so by wishlisting it.
Expected Star Overdrive Price
The Star Overdrive price has yet to be confirmed. As the game was only revealed in late August, we suspect that the price will not be revealed until closer to the release date. Considering that The Game Awards is still upcoming, we speculate that the game may be shown then, with both a release date and official price in hand.
However, if we were to speculate how much the game would cost, we would estimate it to be around $15 to $30 USD. This is based purely on Caracal Games’ past titles, such as Downward: Enhanced Edition, which was released in 2017. That said, games have become more expensive since then, and any estimate we provide is all guesswork.

Star Overdrive Platforms
At this time, the confirmed Star Overdrive platforms are Nintendo Switch and PC. Unfortunately, those hoping to play Star Overdrive on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, or mobile will be in for a rude awakening, as neither platform has been revealed for the hotly anticipated action-adventure game. While there is a likelihood the game may find a home on the PlayStation and Xbox, mobile seems highly unlikely.
Star Overdrive Trailers
The first Star Overdrive trailer emerged during the Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase.
The first few scenes show what looks to be the protagonist’s home, with their hoverboard and keyboard guitar (keytar, if you will) bathed in a blue, ethereal light. It then cuts to a bedroom with an oval window, showing the stars and what we speculate to be ships moving past at the speed of light.
The debut Star Overdrive trailer then cuts to what looks like the ship’s middle, where the protagonist is woken up by something that calls them down onto the planet to explore.
From the Star Overdrive gameplay we see here, the player can use their hoverboard to traverse through a wide array of complex landscapes and even in combat if they so choose. One particular segment shows the player using the hoverboard while upside down, the speed of the board preventing them from falling and jettisoning them across swathes of territory.
As for the hoverboard in combat, it looks as though it can be used to get up close and personal with epic-proportioned bosses, with the protagonist’ keytar also functioning as some sort of weapon, dealing in both melee and ranged attacks.
Expected Star Overdrive System Requirements
Currently, there are no details about the Star Overdrive system requirements to share. We will update this page accordingly when Caracal Games and Dear Villagers share news about the minimum and recommended specs. Considering the game can run on a Nintendo Switch and a Nintendo Switch OLED, we expect that PC system requirements will not be entirely punishing for PC gamers who perhaps don’t have the most powerful PC.
As the game is a timed Nintendo Switch exclusive, the Star Overdrive system requirements will likely be unveiled in the early months of next year. The game does not look graphically demanding, so we’re expecting hardware from 10 years ago to be able to run the game.

The latest Star Overdrive news is its very own reveal trailer. While not much was revealed about the story, we can see what sort of aspects and features are to be expected at release. For one thing, its setting is futuristic, so the biomes we explore and the people we meet—if there are indeed people to meet and not just creatures—will be just as alien to us as the protagonist.
The reveal of the hoverboard during the trailer also highlights that there will be a level of vastness about the world. With players being able to hop on their hoverboards, Star Overdrive’s locations will likely have been made with speed and exploration in mind.
Most interesting of all, Nintendo Switch gamers will be able to jump in on the fun as soon as early 2025. While no specific release date has been confirmed, and PC players will likely get their hands on the game much later, Star Overdrive fans won’t have to wait too long.
