After user backlash, Sonos commits to bi-weekly updates for its new app to address stability and functionality issues. CEO Patrick Spence apologizes for the rocky launch.
Sonos had unveiled an all-new iteration of its mobile app, back in April. The app was meant to offer more flexibility, and improved personalization for an enhanced user experience.
However, when it was made available to the public in May, the response was not what the company had hoped for.
Sonos App Faces Criticism on X
Many users have taken to X to vent their disappointment with the release of the failed app. Users reported a plethora of issues such as the removal of multiple features including “Play Next,” “Play Last” and “Shuffle All,” among others.

Users have also scrutinized the viability of the half-baked app, based on the company’s decision to release a plethora of updates to fix the same.?

Sonos Finally Responds to Backlash
Now, Sonos CEO Patrick Spence, as part of a post on the company’s website, has admitted that the app’s overhaul has been a letdown.?
“We know that too many of you have experienced significant problems with our new app which rolled out on May 7, and I want to begin by apologizing for disappointing you,” Spence wrote.
He further emphasized the company’s goal to rectify the issue by “fixing the app for all of our customers and partners”. Sonos has released multiple fixes for the app and Spence believes that this has allowed a significant number of users to have a “robust experience using the Sonos app.”
Additionally, he has confirmed that more updates are on the way between July to October. The updates will offer enhancements and fixes such as? “improving the stability when adding new products,” “improving Volume responsiveness,” “user interface improvements based on customer feedback,” and more. The company aims to launch software updates on a bi-weekly schedule.
