Samsung has confirmed the extension of its One UI 6.1 update to older devices following its introduction with the Galaxy S24 series.

The rollout is expected to begin early in May.

One U1 6.1 brings with it Galaxy AI, a mix of on-device and cloud-based artificial intelligence features including Circle to Search and Live Translate.

A company announcement detailed availability. Compatible models include the Galaxy S22 range, Galaxy Z Fold 4, the Galaxy Z Flip 4, and Galaxy Tab S8 tablets. The technology will not be available on all older Samsung devices with the likes of the Galaxy S21 omitted for now, but a later, limited version of 6.1 is said to be on its way.

Earlier this month, some Galaxy S23 users had complained of “totally unresponsive” touchscreens after trying the early software update, but it’s not clear if they’re substantial.

One issue was described as the common update-related “hangover” when a significant OS upgrade is released, with devices bogging down as they reindex data and configure settings.

Some Galaxy S23 owners have complained of issues with third-party replacement screens, but it’s also unclear if these are widespread. Users with third-party screens can either wait on a firmware update for a solid fix or roll back to previous software.

Samsung is expected to monitor for any other problems with One UI 6.1 to ensure a smooth launch.
