Popular online gaming and social platform Roblox is set to implement several updates over the coming months. These updates will significantly improve revenue opportunities for creators by increasing revenue sharing to up to 70% for paid “experiences.”
“Experiences” in Roblox refer to user-created games and interactive environments, which are the platform’s core appeal. They allow users to create, play, and monetize their content.
Roblox Monetization Aims to Increase Platform’s Appeal to Creators
At its annual developers conference in San Francisco on September 6, Roblox CEO David Baszucki announced a list of major updates to boost creators’ revenue opportunities and expand the platform’s appeal.

Roblox is overhauling its payment model, shifting away from its traditional reliance on the platform’s digital currency, Robux. Instead, some developers will now be able to charge users directly in fiat currencies like the USD, aligning Roblox more closely with the conventional video game industry. This update applies only to games that cost money to play.
Under the new model, payouts will vary based on the game’s price.

For example, creators of games priced at $50 will retain 70% of the revenue, while those for games priced at $30 and $10 will earn 60% and 50%, respectively. Later this year, Roblox users will be able to settle transactions on the platform using their local currencies.
Roblox’s chief product officer Manuel Bronstein, emphasized that this adjustment will improve the platform’s appeal to existing developers by providing more flexible monetization options.
Roblox generates most of its revenue from the sale of Robux, which users use to buy virtual goods. The company takes a cut from every sale, while the developer gets the rest.
Roblox is rolling out a “Price Optimization” tool to support creators further to help developers determine the best price for in-experience purchases. This tool will conduct tests and offer recommendations, potentially suggesting price adjustments to maximize sales.

Roblox also introduced a new affiliate link program designed to boost creator earnings. This program allows creators to earn up to 50% of Robux purchases made by new users who sign up through their unique link, capped at $100. Thanks to a Shopify integration with Roblox, creators can earn more revenue by selling merchandise directly within their experiences.
This integration provides an additional revenue stream and expands the platform’s e-commerce capabilities.
