Google’s upcoming Pixel 9 phones will have an “Add Me” feature that uses AI to slip you into group photos when you weren’t originally there, according to a leak.
OnLeaks and?Android Headlines said they’ve obtained a promo video (since removed by YouTube) that shows the feature in action. You simply take multiple photos from the same vantage point as different people enter and exit the frame — the Pixel creates a composite that includes everyone. This could be helpful for times when you want a group selfie but need to hold the phone or use a timer.
Most common solutions to this involve either a foldable phone that can prop up, such as Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 6, or else remote control from a smartwatch.
The promo kit also shows a previously leaked Pixel Screenshots feature that searches your screenshots for the content inside. It’s somewhat like Microsoft’s postponed Recall feature on Copilot+ PCs, but only for intentionally captured images instead of the periodic snapshots for the Windows technology.
The ad otherwise recaps some of the often-leaked details of the Pixel 9 family, including their AI functionality. Gemini unsurprisingly plays an important role, and it’s clear the Pixel 9 Pro will come in 6.3-inch standard and 6.9-inch XL versions. You can also expect seven years of feature drops (and presumably OS updates) like with the Pixel 8 series.
An additional commercial also shows that Magic Editor should get a “Reimagine” feature that can change a photo scene based on prompts, such as inserting a different sky.
The Pixel 9 range is expected to come in base, Pro, Pro XL, and Pro Fold models. All of them should have speedier Tensor G4 chips, new modems, and camera upgrades, while every phone but the Pro Fold should have faster under-display fingerprint readers. They might run Android 15 out of the box.
Google has confirmed that it will introduce the Pixel 9 range at its August 13th event. The Pixel Watch 3 is also expected to make an appearance. It’s not certain how well they’ll compete against the Galaxy S24 series or iPhone 15, but Google is clearly betting that AI will give the Pixel 9 an advantage.
