The once-niche Persona franchise has now hit mainstream popularity. Persona 5 was a massive breakthrough for the RPG series, and since then Atlus has given newcomers a chance to catch up with a remaster of 4 and the Persona 3 Reload remake. Persona 6 details are scarce, but we’re bringing you all we know about the yet-to-be-announced JRPG sequel.
As great as each of those games are, we can only go back so far before there’s nothing left to do but move forward. We’ve all been scouring the net for any hint of Persona 6 news, but information is still scarce. It’s been eight long years since the runaway success of the latest entry in the series, and hype is high for what could be coming next.

What is Persona 6?
Persona 6 will be the latest in the ongoing Persona series that is a spin-off of the Shin Megami Tensei games. While they both share the same basic turn-based combat and demon catching mechanics, Persona has a much stronger social aspect to it.
Assuming Persona 6 follows the same structure as the rest of the series, you will play as your own protagonist in a modern-day setting most likely somewhere in Japan.
Each day will be split into chunks of time you can choose to spend hanging out with friends to increase your social links, working jobs to earn money and increase stats, and doing various other side activities.
Typically during the nights, though, you can enter some form of alternate version of the world filled with demons you can fight, negotiate with to recruit, and level up similar to a Pokemon game. The Persona 6 concept should be similar to its predecessors; we’re anticipating a lengthy with hundreds of hours of content.
Persona 6 Release Date
Expected: 2025/2026
Persona 6 has yet to be officially confirmed, and as such has no release date. However, series producer Kazuhisa Wada stated in an interview in 2018 before the release of the Dancing in Moonlight and Dancing in Starlight that:
“We are working on mid-to-long term plans, including new numbered entries, so that fans can constantly enjoy the Persona series starting next year.”
The Persona 6 release date could be sooner than we think considering Studio Zero, which is made up of most of the core Persona development team, will not be making Persona 6. Instead, a new team has been working on the game and could be much further along than we think.
Some Persona 6 rumors have suggested it may show up in 2025 or 2026, but we can’t vouch for the validity of these claims. It’s possible that there will be a Persona 6 announcement before the end of the year, but it could most likely be revealed at the beginning of 2025. This was the case with Persona 5 which was first teased at the beginning of 2014.
What Platforms Will Persona 6 Be Available On?
Probably Not Exclusive
Every new Persona game up through the latest installment was a PlayStation exclusive at launch, but we don’t expect Persona 6 to keep that trend alive. Since Persona 5’s release, Persona 4, and Persona 3 Reload have all been released on all platforms including PC, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.
Considering how well those games have sold as multiplatform games, we think it is very safe to say Persona 6 will come to as many modern platforms as possible on release. There’s a possibility for a timed PlayStation exclusive, as we saw with the likes of Deathloop, though. It is speculated that the Persona 6 development cycle is nearly completed according to rumors from earlier this year.
There’s No Persona 6 Trailer, Yet
The biggest Persona 6 news would be the release of a trailer or any footage of the game, but to date nothing has surfaced. Once any Persona 6 trailers do show up, we will keep you updated.
Will Persona 6 Have a Female Protagonist?
The Persona 6 protagonist has not been shown or spoken about in any official capacity. That said, the only version of Persona where we had the choice of playing as a female protagonist was Persona 3 Portable for the PSP, a feature missing from last year’s remake due to “budget constraints.”
There was a large outcry from fans that the female protagonist (affectionately called FeMC) was excluded from Persona 3 Reload, so we can only hope that Atlus includes the option in Persona 6.
Can I Play Persona 6 Without Playing the Other Games?
Yes, every Persona game has featured a brand new cast of characters in a different location with no narrative ties to past games. As standalone stories, they provide an encompassing experience to newcomers and seasoned series veterans alike.
That said, we do highly recommend playing Persona 3 Reload, 4, and 5 Royal, if possible. This will get you familiar with the combat, but more importantly the flow of managing your daily life. Plus, these are some of the most celebrated JRPGs so it would be a shame not to experience them for yourself. Persona 6 gameplay is unlikely to deviate from the established formula, but we could see something wildly new. This was
The characters have become more defined and recognizable with the success of each entry, with the likes of Joker and Morgana exploding in popularity, the former even ending up in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. It’s expected that Persona 6 characters could have an even greater level of fanfare when they are unleashed to the public.
Persona 6 Price
Expected: $70
Persona 5 released in 2016 , where a new game retailed for $60. However, Persona 6 will be released at a time where $70 games are the standard.
This is evident in Persona 3 Reload, a remake of a game from 2006, that is priced at $70 so there’s little doubt that a brand new game would be any different.
The Bottom Line
We’re all eager to dive back into the world of Persona to build bonds with a new cast of characters and face our inner demons when Persona 6 finally comes out. Official Persona 6 news is still lacking, but we can at least be sure it is on the way.
