It also means deposits and withdrawals are processed anonymously and instantly. That’s useful because there are plenty of opportunities to win at CoinPoker.

As well as Hold’em, Omaha, and 5-Card Omaha cash games, there are hundreds of tournaments every month, as well as annual series, including the $25 million CSOP. Add 33% rakeback to the mix, and CoinPoker has something for everyone.

BetOnline Offshore Poker Site

BetOnline is a bridge between two worlds. As well as traditional fiat payment options, you can make cryptocurrency deposits and withdrawals. This footing in two worlds is due to the fact that BetOnline has been active since 2001.

This experience shines through when you look at its line-up of Hold’em, Omaha, Stud, and Draw cash games. The fast-fold games are our favourites, along with jackpot SNGs and tournaments with guarantees topping $100,000.

Along with modern crypto payment options, BetOnline’s team has developed novel features, including throwables (the ability to throw virtual objects at people). Some people might think these features detract from the seriousness of poker, but we love them because they’re fun and attract casual players.

3. Bovada – The Best Hong Kong Poker Site for High-Volume Players

Bovada Offshore Poker Site

Bovada is the ideal poker site for players who enjoy instant action. You do need a VPN to access Bovada from Hong Kong, but you don’t need to download any software. We know some people prefer downloadable apps, but the instant-play setup fits perfectly with Bovada’s selection of turbo games.

As well as fast-fold Zone Poker tables, you can enter turbo tournaments costing as little as $3.30 and high-paced jackpot SNGs.

Having the ability to play hundreds of hands per hour is great for those who want to earn rakeback. Moreover, it’s why Bovada is one of the best poker sites in Hong Kong for high-volume players.

Poker - A game of Omaha at Ignition

Ignition is our top pick for tournaments out of the best online poker sites we feature. Sundays are the best day of the week for MTT players, and Ignition’s $200,000 major always attracts a crowd. We’d like the $162 entry fee to be slightly lower, but the winner does get at least $20,000. What’s more, there are $1 qualifiers throughout the week.

As well as big-money majors, Ignition offers a fantastic line-up of freerolls and MTTs costing $50 or less.

For those who prefer cash games, there isn’t a ton of action above $3/$6. However, if you’re a low and micro-stakes player, the Hold’em, Omaha, Draw, and Stud games we tried were extremely fishy.

Pros pros

  • Ongoing bonuses and crypto offers

How Online Poker Sites in Hong Kong Ensure Fair Play

Ensuring fair play is a priority for online poker sites in Hong Kong and is achieved through a combination of advanced technologies, stringent security measures and continuous monitoring.

Random Number Generators

Random Number Generators

Random Number Generators (RNG) are essential for ensuring the fair distribution of all cards used at the best poker sites.

This technology generates unpredictable, totally random sequences of numbers and all cards, making it impossible to manipulate the outcome of the game and ensuring that each hand dealt is entirely random.

Third-Party Audits

Third-Party Audits

The best online poker sites in Hong Kong often undergo independent audits and certifications by reputable organisations.

These third-party audits verify the fairness and integrity of the games, ensuring that the RNGs and other systems operate correctly and without bias.

Anti-Collusion Mechanisms

Anti-Collusion Mechanisms

To maintain fair play, the best poker sites implement sophisticated anti-collusion mechanisms.

These systems monitor gameplay patterns and flag suspicious activities that could indicate players working together to gain an unfair advantage, thereby preventing collusion and preserving the integrity of the game.

Secure Software and Encryption

Secure Software and Encryption

Online poker platforms use advanced software security measures and encryption technologies to protect both game integrity and player data.

Secure software prevents unauthouriseded access and manipulation, while encryption safeguards sensitive information from potential cyber threats.

Player Reporting Systems

Player Reporting Systems

Players have the ability to report any suspicious activities they encounter during games.

Online poker sites provide clear processes for these reports, ensuring that each case is thoroughly investigated and appropriate actions are taken to address any potential cheating or unfair play.

Regular Updates and Monitoring

Regular Updates and Monitoring

Continuous monitoring and regular updates of the software are crucial for maintaining the fairness of online poker games.

These updates not only fix bugs and enhance features but also strengthen security protocols, ensuring that the game environment remains fair and secure for all players.

Poker Solvers and AI Detection

Poker Solvers and AI Detection

To combat the use of poker solvers and AI tools, online poker sites deploy advanced detection systems.

These systems analyse gameplay for patterns indicative of AI usage, helping to identify and prevent any unfair advantages gained through the use of such technologies.

Types of Poker Games at Top Online Poker Sites

The online poker sites Hong Kong has to offer are packed with cash games and tournaments. Depending on your preferences, you’ll be able to play different variants under one of three betting structures:

  • Limit: the amount you can bet or raise is limited to the size of the blinds, e.g., in a $1/$2 game, you can only bet or raise in $2 increments.
  • Pot Limit: the amount you can bet or raise is limited to the size of the pot, e.g., if there’s $10 in the pot, you can only bet or raise $10.
  • No Limit: there is no limit on the amount you can bet or raise, i.e., you can put in your entire stack at any point.

The best poker sites in Hong Kong offer the following variants as cash games or tournaments using the above betting structures.

Texas Hold’em

A round of Texas Hold’em starts with two players put in antes called the big and small blind. After this, everyone at the table receives two cards that only they can see (known as hole cards).

Play moves in a clockwise direction after the initial deal, and players can fold, call the last biggest bet, or raise. If two or more players make it past this stage, three cards are dealt in the middle of the table (known as the flop).

migliori app poker - texas

Everyone can use these cards in conjunction with their own to make a five-card hand. That’s why they’re known as community cards. This betting dynamic can happen twice more, which means up to five community cards can be dealt.

If two or more players are active after the fifth community card has been dealt, a showdown happens. The winner is the player with the best-ranked five-card hand. If one player forces everyone to fold at any point in a Hold’em hand, they take the pot.

This is where some of the skill and wonder come into play. You can learn how to play Texas Hold’em poker like a pro with our expert guide.

Omaha

Omaha is similar to Hold’em in terms of how hands play out. The main similarities are that five community cards are dealt over the course of five betting rounds, and the winner is the player with the best hand or who makes everyone else fold.

The big difference between Omaha and Hold’em is that players have four hole cards instead of two. Additionally, you have to use two cards. These rules mean you’ve got more ways to make hands in Omaha compared to Hold’em.

The fact that you’ve got more ways to make hands increases the variance. To put it another way, it’s easier to lose with weak hands because there are more opportunities for opponents to make strong hands.

Our pro tip is to master the basics of poker by playing Hold’em before you switch to Omaha. For even more action and volatility, we suggest taking a look at 5-Card Omaha at CoinPoker.

Stud

Stud is a classic variant that’s available at some of the best poker sites with real money games in Hong Kong. Stud is typically played with 7 cards, all of which are dealt to an individual player.

migliori app poker - 7 card stud

This makes Stud different from Hold’em and Omaha because it doesn’t have any community cards. Instead, cards are dealt over five betting rounds. Everyone places an ante bet to get the action underway. After that, everyone receives three cards: two face-down and one face-up.

Three cards are dealt face-up over the course of three betting rounds before a seventh card is dealt face-down. Stud poker players make decisions based on the cards they hold, the cards on display, and the betting action. One of the most played types of the popular casino game, you can learn how to play 7 card Stud poker with our expert guide.

Draw

5-Card is the most popular draw poker variant. Play starts with two antes (the big and small blind) being posted. After that, players receive five cards each. These cards are dealt face-down, so only the holder can see them.

CoinPoker - Best Poker Sites

A betting round occurs, and players who elect not to fold have two choices: hold (keep cards) or draw (exchange cards). Active players have the option to hold or draw as many of their cards as they want.

Once the draw is over, a second betting round ensues. A showdown occurs if two or more players remain active at this point, and the winner is the player with the best-ranked five-card hand.

6+ Plus Hold’em

6+ Plus Hold’em is a relatively new innovation. It was created by high-stakes cash game players in Asia who wanted to preserve the integrity of Hold’em while tweaking the dynamics to generate more action.

6 plus hold'em hand rankings

The end result was a version of Hold’em where all cards lower than a 6 are removed from the deck. Removing these cards means certain hands are mathematically harder to make. Specifically, flushes beat full houses in 6+ Hold’em (aka Short Deck Hold’em).

The hand rankings for 6+ Hold’em are:

  1. Royal Flush
  2. Straight Flush
  3. Four-of-Kind
  4. Flush
  5. Full House
  6. Straight
  7. Three-of-a-Kind
  8. Two Pair
  9. One Pair
  10. High Card

Other than a slight change to the hand rankings, 6+ Hold’em hands play out in the same way as traditional Texas Hold’em.

Games and Tournaments at the Best Poker Sites

When exploring the best poker sites, players will encounter a variety of games and tournaments tailored to suit different skill levels and preferences. Understanding the different types can help you pick what to play.

Cash Games

  • Cash games involve real money wagers on each hand, with players able to join and leave at any time. Blinds remain constant, and players can buy in with a set minimum and maximum amount.

Fast-Fold Poker Games

  • Fast-Fold poker games, like Zoom Poker, move players to a new table with new opponents instantly after folding. This format increases the number of hands played per hour, reducing waiting time.

Sit & Go Tournaments

  • Sit & Go tournaments start as soon as enough players have registered and typically feature nine or ten participants. They are quick and intense, making them ideal for short poker sessions.

Satellite Tournaments

  • Satellite tournaments allow players to win entry into larger, higher-stakes tournaments instead of cash prizes. They offer an affordable way to qualify for major events with significant prize pools.

Freeroll Tournaments

  • Freeroll tournaments are free to enter and offer real money or other prizes, making them popular among beginners. They attract large fields, providing a competitive and exciting environment.

Multi-Table Tournaments (MTTs)

  • Multi-Table Tournaments (MTTs) involve many players across multiple tables, with tables consolidated as players are eliminated. MTTs feature substantial prize pools and require strategic play and endurance.

How to Play Poker Tournaments Online

Once you learn how to play poker, you no doubt want to get competitive. Tournament poker strategy is all about preserving your stack while attacking other players. You also have to be flexible and adapt your strategy as the tournament progresses and the blinds increase.

If you can find the right balance between attack and defence, there’s a huge amount of value in poker tournaments because everyone’s entry fee goes into a prize pool. This means prizes are worth significantly more than the buy-in.

Therefore, if you can find the right tournaments, your return on investment (ROI) can be massive. We believe the best poker sites in Hong Kong are located offshore because they have the biggest player pools. Large player pools create bigger prize pools.

Another reason for using online poker sites with large player pools is that it increases your chances of finding weak players. Game selection is a fundamental skill in poker. Using the top poker sites in Hong Kong gives you a better chance of facing weak players (aka fish).

The more fish in the field, the more chance you’ve got of winning some money. Therefore, if you like the challenge tournaments present, our pro tip is to use offshore online poker sites in Hong Kong.

The Best Bonuses at Online Poker Sites in Hong Kong

You can always get a bankroll boost at our recommended Hong Kong poker sites. In fact, that’s why we chose to highlight our top 5 picks. They all have weekly poker bonuses that fall into these categories:

Welcome Bonus

Welcome Bonus

New customers get extra credits, rakeback, and free tournament tickets. For example, our CoinPoker sign-up link allows you to claim three deposit match bonuses worth up to ₮1,100.

The two most important terms and conditions for welcome offers are that you must be a new (and eligible) customer and complete the post-collection wagering requirements.

For example, CoinPoker’s welcome bonuses are released in 10% increments each time you wager (i.e., pay in rake) 2x their value.

No Deposit Bonuses

No Deposit Bonuses

No deposit bonuses are rewards you receive without having to add funds to your account. Common examples of no deposit bonuses in poker are loyalty rewards, such as those you get at BetOnline and rakeback.

Rakeback

Rakeback

Rake is a small amount of money taken from each cash game pot and tournament buy-in to cover a poker operator’s costs. You can get back a percentage of the rake you pay at the top poker sites in Hong Kong. For example, you can get 36% rakeback at some sites. So, if you paid $1,000 in rake, you’d get $360 credited back.

Freerolls

Freerolls

Freerolls are real-money tournaments without an entry fee. In other words, you can enter for free and win cash prizes. The great thing about freerolls, other than the fact you win cash and not bonus credits, is that most players who enter are newbies and not very skilled.

Free Tournament Tickets

Free Tournament Tickets

The best online poker sites with real money tournaments give you a variety of ways to play for free or at a reduced cost. Loyalty rewards often include tickets to popular tournaments. Additionally, you can play low-cost satellites (aka qualifiers) that act as feeder events for big-money tournaments.

Loyalty Programmes

Loyalty Programmes

Loyalty programmes operate on a bets-for-points basis. That means you earn points based on the amount of money you pay in rake. Loyalty programmes are typically tiered, which means you move up the ranks as you earn more points. Each VIP level gives you access to an ever-improving selection of rewards, including bonus credits, free tournament tickets, and enhanced rakeback.

Real Money Payment Methods for Poker Sites

You need safe ways to make deposits and withdrawals if you’re going to use the best online poker sites for real money gaming in Hong Kong.

Traditional Payment Methods

Traditional Payment Methods

Credit and debit cards are popular ways to make deposits and withdrawals. As well as being safe, recognisable, and efficient, virtually every top-rated Hong Kong poker site accepts Visa and MasterCard.

Bank transfers are also a popular way to deposit and withdraw HKD. Bank transfer withdrawals take around 7 days, which is longer than the 2 to 5 days for debit card withdrawals. However, if you’re making large HKD transactions, bank transfers are the best option.

Cryptocurrencies

Cryptocurrencies

The best way to make deposits and withdrawals if you want safety, speed, and guaranteed acceptance rates are cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin. These tokens aren’t tied to a specific country, which means you can use them wherever you are in the world.

What’s more, because cryptocurrencies are processed via decentralised blockchains, you can make extremely small or large transactions within minutes. For example, if you use the world’s largest crypto-poker site, CoinPoker, withdrawals are completed, on average, within 30 minutes.

eWallets

eWallets

eWallets, such as Neteller, Skrill, and PayPal, allow you to send money electronically from one digital wallet to another. Before the advent of cryptocurrencies, eWallets offered the fastest withdrawal times at 1 to 2 days.

Why Use a VPN on the Best Poker Sites for Real Money

You may need to use a VPN to access some of the best poker sites in Hong Kong. Using a VPN isn’t illegal. In fact, there are a variety of reasons why it’s actually a good idea to use VPNs:

  • Anonymity: VPNs mask your IP address by routing it through a private network. This means you can browse the internet anonymously, which, in turn, makes it harder for criminals to target you.
  • Access to International Networks: VPNs give you access to services that may only be available outside of Hong Kong, including international online poker networks. This means you can access bigger poker bonuses, more games, and better action.
  • Connect Stability: Using a VPN can help give you a fast, stable browsing experience. A VPN won’t make your standard connection any faster, but it won’t slow things down.

Real Money Poker Sites with Live Dealers

Poker doesn’t always have to be played against other people. The top poker sites in Hong Kong are multifaceted, which means you’ve got the option to bet on sports and play casino games. For those who need a break from bluffing and value betting, the casino lobbies at BetOnline, Ignition and Bovada feature a variety of casino poker games.

Video poker is you vs. you, i.e., you’re playing on your own with the aim of making a strong five-card draw hand. Table poker pits you against a dealer. You don’t need to bluff or worry about getting a read on the dealer. Your sole aim in these games is to make a better hand than the dealer. If you want to learn perfect video poker strategy, check out our guide.

The best table poker games, in our opinion, are live dealer ones because they retain that element of personal interaction. Some of the best live dealer casino poker games to try at our recommended sites are:

  • Live 6 Plus Poker
  • Live Bet on Poker
  • Caribbean Stud

The Best Mobile Poker Sites in Hong Kong

Mobile poker sites in Hong Kong are ideal for people who enjoy gaming on the go. There are a few advantages to playing poker on a mobile device, including the ability to dip into cash games whenever you notice a line-up of weak players.

Playing on a smaller screen does make multi-tabling tricky, but there are mobile poker sites and apps that solve this issue. For example, Bovada gives you the ability to play up to 4 tables at once.

Switching between them is as simple as tapping or swiping. Alternatively, you can allow the software to move you automatically when you’re required to play a hand.

Having the ability to play multiple games on the go takes us back to the idea that mobile poker gives you a better chance of exploiting fishy players – meaning those who are inexperienced or often lose.

Is Playing Poker Online for Real Money Legal in Hong Kong?

Yes, but there are caveats. Specifically, Hong Kong’s gambling laws don’t contain any provisions for remote (aka online) operators.

To be clear, playing at the best online poker sites for real money is legal in Hong Kong if it’s conducted under social conditions (i.e., not for profit) in private establishments. Gambling is also legal in Hong Kong if it takes place in a venue licensed by the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau.

Those points are clearly stated in the 1977 Gambling Ordinance of Hong Kong. What’s also clear is the definition of a “place” where gambling cannot occur: “a place includes any ship, aircraft or vehicle, and any spot on land or water.”

A computer server not located in Hong Kong doesn’t fall under the definition of a “place.” Additionally, there are no mentions of “remote,” “digital,” or “offshore” sites in the Gambling Ordinance, except in reference to bookmaking.

“Bookmaking means the soliciting, receiving, negotiating or settling of a bet by way of trade or business whether personally or by letter, telephone, telegram or online medium (including the service commonly known as the Internet).”

Piecing these fragments together, we can conclude that online poker isn’t illegal. It may not be expressly permitted in the current gambling laws of Hong Kong, but the regulations don’t outlaw offshore poker sites.

Legal Sites to Play Poker Online

So, there are legal sites to play poker online in Hong Kong; they’re just located in different countries. This isn’t uncommon. Poker sites such as CoinPoker have international gaming licences, which means they’re available in a variety of countries.

This is why we believe the best online poker sites Hong Kong has to offer are brands such as BetOnline, Bovada, and CoinPoker. These sites comply with international gambling regulations and offer safe, secure, and legal poker services in multiple jurisdictions, including Hong Kong.

Online Poker Terms Explained

We’ve all heard of the beginner terms call, bluff and raise, but as you get more experienced in poker you’ll encounter a lot more poker terms. Here, we’ve broken down some of the most common and what they mean.

Poker Term Explanation
Blinds Forced bets posted by players to the left of the dealer button to stimulate action. Includes the small blind and big blind.
Flop The first three community cards dealt face-up in the centre of the table in Texas Hold’em and Omaha.
Turn The fourth community card dealt face-up in the centre of the table.
River The fifth and final community card dealt face-up in the centre of the table.
Hole Cards The private cards dealt face-down to each player, also known as pocket cards.
Burn Card A card discarded from the top of the deck before dealing each round of community cards to prevent cheating.
Nuts The best possible hand given the current community cards.
Check-Raise A deceptive play where a player checks initially, then raises after an opponent bets.
Kicker An unpaired side card that determines the winner in the event of a tie between hands of the same rank.
Muck The pile of folded and discarded cards or the act of discarding one’s hand without showing it.

More action has created a competitive environment and, in turn, a breeding ground for talent. Some of the top poker players in the world now hail from parts of Asia, including Hong Kong. The best poker players in Hong Kong, based on live tournament earnings up to May 2024, are:

Player Tournament Earnings
