To become a great poker player – or the next Phil Ivey – you will want to invest in using the best poker training sites. It’s a harsh truth that everyone, including me, must face in the modern era.

Today, everyone is using solvers to get the kind of insights it takes professional pros years to master. Therefore, if you’re not using the poker training sites, your chances of winning are low.

So, the only reliable way to become a winning player is by enrolling in the top poker training courses online. Let me show you how…

Top Poker Training Sites

What are the best poker training sites online?

If you want to maximize your chances of beating the games at the best poker sites online, take a look at our recommended training websites and what they have to offer.

1. Pokercoaching.com

  • Founder: Jonathan Little
  • Experience Level: Beginner to Advanced
  • Best Features: Free ebooks and tools, 200+ videos, interactive elements
  • Free Trial Included: Yes

Pokercoaching

I first found out about Pokercoaching.com when I was looking for training to compete in poker tournaments.

Created by two-time WPT winner Jonathan Little, the site features content from a ton of top pros, including WSOP bracelet holder, Chris Brewer.

There is plenty of high-quality cash game content for beginners and intermediate players, though it may not be as much as some other best poker training sites online.

For me, the most useful resource at Pokercoaching.com’s is their webinars.

Located in “Homework”, the webinars focus on specific scenarios, such as playing from the button. The calendar displays upcoming topics, which makes it easy to filter through them.

As such, you don’t have to sit through an entire poker training course just to learn about one topic or position you’re interested in.

Here are more stand-out features at Pokercoaching.com to explore:

  • Free resources, including ebooks, GTO charts, and interactive challenges.
  • Access to over 200 videos.
  • Includes chat rooms and Discord channels for sharing ideas.
  • Can filter the content based on the target audience, topic, and other qualities.
  • Members get access to exclusive $2,000 freerolls on CoinPoker.

2. Elite University

  • Founder: Charlie Carrel
  • Experience Level: Experienced to Advanced
  • Best Features: 200+ hours of content, Discord chat, get feedback on hands you play
  • Free Trial Included: Yes

Elite University

Charlie Carrel has won over $9 million in live tournaments, as well as WPT, EPT, and Triton titles. What’s interesting about Carrel is that he started with a $50 bankroll, so he knows how to grind up from the bottom.

His poker training site, Elite University, focuses on Hold’em cash games and tournaments. There’s free content that’s ideal for beginners, but I think this site is more suitable for experienced players based on Carrel’s approach to poker.

I say this because he uses an exploitative strategy, which means there’s less focus on mathematics and GTO strategies as other pros.

Carrel teaches you to exploit opponents weaknesses by using solid fundamentals. This is more difficult for newbies due to their lack of experience to spot tells in other players.

As the premium subscription packages are more expensive than other poker training sites, I think you need a certain amount of experience to get the most from the platform.

Overall, there are a few great features from Elite University to take advantage of:

  • 200+ hours of coaching.
  • 24/7 access to feedback and hand reviews via Discord.
  • Get feedback on hands from Carrel and other experienced coaches.
  • Low-stakes poker training videos and community coaching.

3. GTO Wizard

  • Founder: Matt Chmelo
  • Experience Level: Intermediate to Advanced
  • Best Features: Ability to upload your own hands, comprehensive database, creating structured study plans, live coaching with pros, stats and overall performance trackers
  • Free Trial Included: Yes

Poker Training Sites GTO Wizard homepage

GTO Wizard is a poker training site that was founded by Matt Chmelo in 2020 and has grown in popularity quickly in the few years of its existence. In 2023 it became the official strategy partner of PokerGO. GTO Wizard also has some pro poker ambassadors, including 2022 WSOP Main Event Champion Espen Jorstad.

Compared to some other poker training sites, GTO Wizard is very much more of a “do-it-yourself” type of site which may be appealing to some players. It has a blank slate to start and requires you to decide on a course of study you wish to take.

One of the best features in my opinion, is the GTO Wizard “study board” where you have full sections for study, practice and analysis. Each section has subsections for different types of study.

Because of the in-depth options and do it yourself nature of GTO Wizard, I classify it as more for intermediate to advanced players rather than for beginners. You need a decent level of understanding of what it is you want to work on before you jump into it.

Here are a few more of the stand-out features at GTO Wizard:

  • Free features, including preflop solutions and one postflop solution per day.
  • Access to weekly coaching from top trainers. Cash games, MTT, Spin & Go and theory coaching are all available.
  • Ability to upload your own hands for analysis and study.
  • In depth articles about different strategies to expand your base of knowledge.
  • Discord to discuss poker strategy with other users.

4. PokerTracker

  • Founder: Mark Scheinberg
  • Experience Level: Intermediate to Advanced
  • Best Features: Interactive reports, graphs and filters, In depth custom stats with flow charts
  • Free Trial Included: Yes

Poker Training Sites PokerTracker homepage

PokerTracker is one of the oldest poker training sites out there, founded by Mark Scheinberg, who is also the co-founder of PokerStars.

It was established pre-poker boom way back in 2001. It is also the official tracking software sponsor of EPT season 11.

The first thing you notice in PokerTracker is its older feel. It feels like a website from the 2000s, with forums, and the way the page is laid out gives it a throwback and almost-vintage appeal.

PokerTracker is a very data focused site, which appeals to players who are good with math and the numbers element of poker.

I was immediately struck by the feature list. It is a large list of data driven features, which supports the idea that this training site is for the analytical mathematical type of player.

Of those features, here is a look at a few of the more interesting ones:

  • In-game hand tagging.
  • Money flow charts.
  • ICM results in replayer.
  • Hand range modeling.
  • Forums for discussion about all things PokerTracker.

5. RangeConverter

  • Founder: N/A
  • Experience Level: Intermediate to Advanced
  • Best Features: Full range viewer for heads up ranges, GTO poker trainer sim, Short Deck poker, free charts and strategy
  • Free Trial Included: No

Poker Training Sites RangeConverter homepage

RangeConverter is a poker training site that promotes quotes from various pros that backs up their training methods. Outside of that, there is not much info on the creation of this site and the people who run it.

Poker pros such as Johnnie Vibes, Chris Brewer, Ky Nguyen and Jeff Gross have quotes on the main site that call RangeConverter their primary tool of study.

One of the things this site boasts and is noticeable at the start is the interactive elements. It encourages playing with their interactive charts for hands and different situations. The first thing you see on the site is a video that shows off these interactive elements.

The “Range Viewer” is one of the most prominent features of the site and once again shows how interactive the site is, more so than some of the other training sites.

RangeConverter also has a short deck poker section which is not something that you will see very often on other training sites

Here is a look at a variety of the features available on RangeConverter:

  • Free preflop charts to study.
  • Free poker strategy reports.
  • Ability to view and train poker strategy for any GTO solution in multiple game types
  • GTO poker trainer access.
  • “Lobby” for building strategy based on different situations.

  • Best Features: Hand converters, situational views, visual opponent feedback, post game analysis

Poker Training Sites Holdem Manager homepage

Hold’em Manager (HM) was founded in 2007, and over a decade later, it continues to be one of the top selling poker training software creators. There are a variety of HM apps that have become part of the selection of products.

The stated purpose of Hold’em Manager is to help beginning players improve their online poker results and to boost those who already have stellar results.

The noticeable thing about Hold’em Manager is that a lot of the information is spread out among several apps. At first glance it seems daunting because it appears as though you have to download a lot of apps in order to truly get the full experience to help you as a player.

The apps available are: Range Wizard, NoteCaddy, TableNinja II and Ignition Hand Grabber. Each has a different purpose and adds to the overall training process.

A few of the most prominent features on Hold’em Manager are:

  • Powerful hand filters.
  • Post game analysis.
  • Visual opponent feedback.
  • Hand replayer.
  • Forums for discussion with other users of the site.

Hold’em Manager is unlike other poker training sites as it does not have a tiered system with different levels of features based on different payment. The only differentiation is based on stakes.

7. PioSolver

  • Founder: Piotrek Lopusiewicz
  • Experience Level: Beginner to Advanced
  • Best Features: Full featured heads up GTO Solver, one activation after buying
  • Free Trial Included: No

Poker Training Sites PioSolver homepage

PioSolver is the standard bearer for poker “solving” and studying out there.

When professional players talk about solvers and study, they will often refer to “Pio” and say things like “Plug it into Pio” which makes the name synonymous with poker training.

PioSolver was created by Polish programmer and former online poker player Piotrek Lopusiewicz. It has since changed the game of poker since its inception in the mid 2010s as players were now able to do things never possible before.

The PioSolver site is a no-nonsense approach site that introduces you with a video about what PioSolver is. It is not like other poker training sites that often have a lot of bells and whistles with all the features.

Instead it has in depth documentation that explains how to use the program to maximize your learning.

PioSolver can be pretty complex for a beginning player. Much of your time using it will be understanding what you are inputting as much as what you are getting as output.

Here are some of the features summed up:

  • Range Explorer to make it easy to visualize what GTO ranges actually look like.
  • Build and customize decision trees.
  • Built-in trainer which allows you to test yourself playing vs computed solutions.
  • Choose your own color scheme to label decisions.
  • Adjust numbers to make for more even rounding.

8. Poker CoPilot

  • Founder: N/A
  • Experience: Beginner to Intermediate
  • Best Features: Exploit your opponents weakness feature, leak detector
  • Free Trial Included: Yes

Poker Training Sites Poker CoPilot homepage

Poker CoPilot was founded in 2008 and is based out of Barcelona, Spain. It has some of the basic features present in most online training websites.

At the bottom of their front page there is a selection of quotes from users who praise Poker CoPilot for helping their game. Some credit it with being a bit more simple to understand and therefore, easier to see results from more quickly.

At first glance, I was not able to notice much about the site that would make it stand out from competitors. The features present are all ones that exist in more complex forms on other training sites.

One thing that is slightly different after inspecting the site further is the focus on exploiting your opponent’s weaknesses.

While most poker training sites focus on perfecting one’s own game, Poker CoPilot makes sure to lend some focus on what an opponent may be doing as well.

After a glance over the site, here are some of the features that stand-out:

  • Poker HUD and tracker.
  • Bankroll chart.
  • Leak detector.
  • Session overview.
  • Tutorial videos.

Poker CoPilot does not have different versions with different price points. The full version is $99 with a 30 day free trial included.

9. Poker Academy

  • Founder: Pawel Brzeski
  • Experience Level: Beginner to Advanced
  • Best Features: Online poker “workout” with timer, webinars with pros
  • Free Trial Included: No

Poker Training Sites Poker Academy homepage

Poker Academy is a poker training site based out of Poland and has connections with several pros who promote the brand through their training, including Jason Su, George Sandev and Simon Welsch.

I was struck by Poker Academy’s sleek site design with the charts right in the front page in easy to view and easy to understand graphics, which can not always be said about every poker training site.

There are many things to look at on Poker Academy beyond just charts. There are webinars and recordings as well which can enrich the poker training experience beyond simply numbers on a screen.

There is also the interesting “online poker workout” where you work against a five minute clock and plug in numbers to the randomizer to create scenarios.

The goal is to work them out in quick amounts of time.

There are many features to choose from on Poker Academy and here are just a few:

Poker Training Sites PokerSnowie homepage

PokerSnowie is based out of Malta and was founded by Johannes Levermann in 2013. It has been one of the top training sites for players in the decade following.

PokerSnowie’s site gives you all of the information you need upfront which is nice for not having to dig too far to find the key features. It lets you know what it has to offer so you can quickly decide if you are interested in purchasing or not.

It also supports the PokerSnowie Preflop app which is a useful tool for quickly running situations if you are on the go.

One of the unique features that I noticed on this site was the “PokerSnowie Quiz”. Where it gives you a series of 12 questions and you decide whether to fold, call or raise based on the scenario.

Some of the other interesting features on PokerSnowie include:

  • Training with live advice.

4. Cash Game/MTT Course – For Intermediate Players

Pokercoaching.com cash game course

Main Features:

  • 180+ Lessons
  • Over 32 Hours of Cash Game Tuition
  • Quizzes, Hand Examples, and more

Pokercoaching.com offers poker tournament training at two levels: Intermediate and Advanced.

The tournament masterclass walks you through every stage of an MTT, from opening ranges to bubble play and ICM considerations. Then with the advanced course, they build on these concepts by explaining how to use software, exploiting players, and heads-up play.

You’ll find that the cash game courses follow a similar pattern with the masterclass giving you a grounding in the basics, such as 100bb play and bluffing.

The advanced poker training program brings in content from high rollers, including GTO, live vs. online cash games, and bet sizing.

5. Mindset Masterclass – For Advanced Players

Mindset masterclass

Main Features:

  • Learn How to Think Like a Pro
  • Manage Your Emotions on a Downswing
  • How to Not Think About Money

Poker is as much about your own mindset as exploiting opponents.

Charlie Carrel (founder of Elite University) places a lot of emphasis on the mental game of poker and teaches you his top techniques alongside Kathy Croswell.

There’s a spiritual undertone to this course, which is why it’s one for experienced players who’ve mastered the fundamentals and want new ways to get an edge.

Different Poker Training Resources

The best poker training sites I’ve tried display ideas and strategy concepts in a variety of formats.

Therefore, when choosing poker training courses, you must consider how the teachings are presented and which materials are easier for you to absorb, for example, through visuals, audio or written content.

Poker Training Videos

The top poker training sites deliver the majority of their content via videos.

This medium lends itself perfectly to training poker players because you can see what’s happening while a pro is explaining their thought process.

Most videos are pre-recorded, which allows the hosts to pause hands, replay certain streets, and add visuals (such as stats and charts).

Live poker training videos have become popular in recent years thanks to the growth of streaming platforms such as Twitch.

Live Poker Training Videos

Live poker training videos allow you to see how pros implement their skills in real-time.

You only have a few seconds to make decisions online, so you have to think fast. Watching live poker videos is a great way to see how pros do it.

Pokercoaching.com has some of the best live poker videos, particularly if you’re a tournament player.

In my personal opinion, Elite University’s real-time coaching content makes it one of the best live poker training sites for cash game players.

Poker Podcasts

Podcasts, such as Doug Polk Poker, Only Friends, and YouTube content from Phil Galfond, are another way to learn more about the game.

The longer format means there’s scope for in-depth discussions between multiple parties.

Podcasts lack some of the visual elements videos available at online poker training sites.

However, if you watch shows on YouTube, people like Polk and Galfond dissect replays of live poker hands.

Poker Strategy Articles

There are plenty of fantastic poker strategy articles on Techopedia. I like the written word because you can digest the content at your own speed.

If you want to really drill down into concepts and re-read sentences, articles are the best poker training free resource which you can get your hands on.

In addition to the poker strategy article on Techopedia, I recommend checking out the free blog on Pokercoaching.com. There, you’ll find articles from Jonathan Little covering a range of topics, including squeeze plays, useful stats, and why you shouldn’t limp.

Poker Training Software

Poker training software has evolved significantly since I started playing in 2010. Back in my day, programs such as Holdem Manager were about the only thing people used to track stats and analyze hands.

Today, the best online poker training websites not only give you access to a variety of tools but also courses on how to use them.

Some of the main tools you can use to improve your game are:

Poker Calculator

The most basic piece of poker software you should use is a calculator. There are plenty of free poker training calculators out there and you can even find this feature on real money poker apps, so don’t pay for one.

Calculators show you the equity (aka odds of winning) of two or more hands based on the cards dealt.

For example, if you put 2 2 vs. A K into a poker calculator, it will tell you the odds are:

  • 2 2 has 52.75% equity (i.e. chance of winning by the river)
  • A K has 46.67% (i.e., chance of winning by the river)
  • 58% chance the hand will be a draw

Everyone should use a poker calculator so they’ve got a basic understanding of hand matchups.

Poker Trackers and HUDs

Tracking software, such as Poker Tracker and Holdem Manager, collect data as you play. These programs not only collect data from your own play but also from that of your opponents.

Data from opponents can then be converted into statistics and shown in real time on a heads-up display (HUD). The video above shows how to use HUDs when you play poker online.

In my opinion, everyone should use tracking software and HUDs when they play online.

Poker Simulators

Also known as solvers, these programs run Game Theory Optimal (GTO) simulations for specific hands/scenarios. The aim is to give you the most theoretically optimal play.

That doesn’t mean you’ll win every hand you play based on the answers provided by a solver. But, you will be tougher to play against because, in the long run, GTO-optimal moves should yield a profit.

Pokercoaching.com has plenty of poker simulator training resources, so you know how to use programs such as GTO Wizard and PokerSnowie.

Poker simulator training is more suitable for experienced and advanced players.

Poker Trainer Game

A poker trainer game gives you a way to practice without risking any money.

They put you in fictional scenarios and ask you to make the optimal move. There are specific apps for this, such as Poker Trainer.

Alternatively, you can use the quizzes on Pokercoaching.com to test your knowledge of common scenarios.

Is there Free Online Poker Training?

Yes, free online poker training is available at our recommended sites.

But what I’d say is that you often get what you pay for when it comes to free online poker training content. This does not mean that free content is poor or inaccurate.

However, if someone has spent a lot of time and money learning high-level poker concepts, the odds are they won’t give their secrets away for free. That’s why you need to understand that there are levels to poker training online.

I advise getting poker training online for free if you’re a newbie who wants to master the basics.

Beyond that, it is worth investing in premium content. All the recommended poker training websites on this page have monthly subscription packages and optional add-ons.

Benefits of Using Poker Training Online Sites

Why should you try the best poker training sites online? Based on my poker experience, these are the main reasons to use training sites to improve your game:

1. Free Online Poker Training Content

The top poker training sites give you tons of free content including articles, quizzes, and videos. You can also get poker trainer free software.

All you need to do is register an account (without entering any financial information), and you’ll have access to free poker training content that can take you from newbie to novice in no time.

2. Game-Specific Advice

There are two main strands to poker training online: cash games and tournaments.

These strands split into other areas, such as GTO, psychology, and bankroll management.

However, you can choose to focus on poker tournament training or cash game content.

Overall, Pokercoaching.com is one of the top poker tournament training sites, and Elite University is one of the best online poker training sites for cash games.

3. Multiple Perspectives

One of the main reasons I use poker training websites is to get different perspectives on topics.

Everyone has their own take on how to play certain hands in certain situations, which is why leading sites have hundreds of poker training videos from different pros.

The beauty of poker is that there isn’t one single answer to any situation. A poker training program from Charlie Carrel might provide a different take on 3-bet pots to one from Jonathan Little. Taking inspiration from both is how you find your own groove.

4. Become Part of a Community

Another thing the top poker training sites are great at is creating communities of like-minded individuals.

For example, Pokercoaching.com has a Discord channel with over 16,000 members. You can use the chatrooms to ask questions, discuss hands, and bounce ideas off people.

5. You’re Investing in Yourself

If you can afford it and want to become a better poker player, paid memberships are an investment worth making.

You’ll feel more obliged to put in the work and make use of the resources at your disposal.

Play at Top-Rated Poker Sites After Poker Training

The goal when you graduate from a poker training program is to apply your newfound skills in real-life situations. You can do this by playing online.

Check out Techopedia’s list of recommended poker sites below, as well as other offshore poker sites which are legal in the US. With any of the recommended brands, you’ll have plenty of ways to test your skills and play for $1 million prizes.

Top Online Poker Site – CoinPoker

I started using CoinPoker in 2024 and found it to be a great platform offering you the chance to earn 33% rakeback with tournaments and cash games. It is also noted as one of the best pot limit omaha sites.

CoinPoker’s four-max cash game tables are always fun, and there’s a nice selection of MTTs throughout the week.

The majority of you are probably more interested in Hold’em, particularly if you’ve completed the Cash Game Masterclass poker training program on Pokercoaching.com. Again, the four-max games are great, as are the full-ring tables.

When it comes to MTTs, there are daily freerolls, tournaments starting at ₮0.01, and majors offering prizepools worth up to ₮100,000.

A standout feature of this site is its software which includes fast, safe and anonymous crypto payments. On top of that are random number generators powered by decentralized blockchain technology to give you a totally fair and unique gambling experience.

What are Poker Training Sites?

Online poker training websites provide a variety of resources designed to make you a better player.

Online videos from experienced pros form the foundation of these platforms, but the best poker training sites also offer articles, quizzes, hand ranking charts, and poker training software.

Difference between Poker Training and Poker Coaching

A simple way to tie up these comparisons is to define that poker training websites are for the masses.

Whereas, poker coaching is for individuals eg more personalized.

Let’s better explain the two educating poker methods:

  • Online poker training platforms feature videos, articles, and resources created by a variety of professional players. The content provided is generic and often categorized as beginner, intermediate, and advanced.
  • Online poker coaching, aka live poker training, is a one-on-one process between a teacher and a student. Coaches offer specific advice on hands a student has played or areas in their game. You can often find a list of coaches available to hire at popular online poker training sites.
Poker Training Online Websites Poker Coaching Online Websites
Aim To cover important topics in poker To address leaks in a player’s game
Cost Low monthly fee/cost per course High hourly rate
Hand Reviews General hand reviews Review specific hands
Coaches Tips from dozens of pros Advice from one pro
Variety A broad range of resources, including videos, articles, and poker simulator training One-on-one discussion

When signing up to an online poker training site, you will find that the teachings comes in a variety of helpful forms, including:

  • Poker training videos, such as those from Pokercoaching.com.
  • Poker training software, like PokerSnowie.

The best poker training sites aim to elevate your game with both videos and software.

I recommend that complete newbies use free poker training articles. Then, once you’ve mastered the basics, try a popular poker training course like Pokercoaching.com’s Cash Game Masterclass.

Finally, if you’re already a winning player but want to move to the next level, it might be time to consider poker coaching.

Top-tier coaches can charge upwards of $500 per hour, so you need to make sure the potential benefits outweigh the costs. If not, get as much use out of our recommended online poker training sites as you can.

Best Poker Training Site – Our Verdict

Poker is a journey of self-exploration, and you need to learn from your wins and losses. However, there are only so many things you can learn independently, and you can become a better player with poker training online.

After our thorough research, here are the three key takeaways that we can provide you:

  • The best poker training sites give you access to ideas from dozens of winning pros.
  • Poker training videos make complex subjects easy to understand.
  • You can consume a lot of content via any device and accelerate your learning.

For me, online poker training is +EV. There are packages for all bankrolls, and as long as you don’t invest more than you can afford to spend, the long-term benefits almost certainly outweigh the costs.
