Maintenance windows are usually strategically planned such that they cause as little inconvenience as possible for users. They usually occur with significant warning, however may need to happen on short notice. Warnings for maintenance windows are given in advance so that users and clients can plan around them. Quite often, maintenance windows are scheduled during overnight periods.
