What Does Remote Lock Mean?

A remote lock is a security mechanism that allows an individual to lock a cell phone or tablet PC from a remote location. It is used to prevent theft or unauthorized data access to stolen or lost smartphones and other portable devices.

Google introduced the remote lock feature for Android-powered mobile phones and tablet PCs.

Remote lock is enabled through the Android Device Manager application, which allows a user to locate, call, lock and erase mobile device data. A user can lock a stolen or lost device by resetting the password. The phone remains locked until the correct password is provided.
