What Does In-Memory Analytics Mean?

In-memory analytics is an enterprise architecture (EA) framework solution used to enhance business intelligence (BI) reporting by querying data from system memory (RAM), versus the traditional hard disk drive medium. This approach significantly reduces querying time in an effort to facilitate efficient business decisions.

Techopedia Explains In-Memory Analytics

With the evolution of BI and RAM hardware technology, more BI platforms are available and affordable, including in-memory analytics tools used to facilitate enterprise decision making – even for small businesses.

Traditional BI incorporates dedicated, heavy resources for building data structures through online analytical processing (OLAP) programming or denormalized schemas. In-memory analytics eliminates the overhead of storing data aggregate tables or indexing pre-aggregated data cubes, resulting in extremely fast query responses. In short, faster data retrieval speeds indicate faster processing and informed decision making.

In October 2011, Oracle introduced the Oracle Exalytics In-Memory Machine – the first in-memory BI analytics system.
