What Does Quattro Pro Mean?

Quattro Pro is a spreadsheet program developed by Borland and later acquired and marketed by Corel Corporation as part of its WordPerfect Office suite. Though Microsoft’s Excel is the most prominent of all spreadsheet programs available in the market today, Quattro Pro was its predecessor, and in many ways, offered better, more innovative features. For example, Quattro Pro was the first spreadsheet program to use tabbed sheets, and compared to Excel, offered more rows and columns and hence higher data accommodation capability.

Techopedia Explains Quattro Pro

Quattro Pro, compared to Excel,
had a number of firsts to its credit. It introduced the tabbed pages
feature to the spreadsheet concept, and it offered more rows and columns
– while Microsoft Excel offered 65,536 rows by 256 columns prior to
2007, Quattro Pro offered one million rows by 18,276 columns.

It was
initially believed that Quattro Pro would capture the market and become the
top productivity software. However, the product was soon mired in
controversy, and more importantly, lawsuits in the United States. Some
technical glitches were also discovered in the program. This led to the
product slowing down in the market and Microsoft Office Suite racing
past it. Although Quattro Pro and WordPerfect are still available, they are
no longer considered competitors to Microsoft Office.
