Techopedia Explains VPN Server
A VPN server is typically a standard server installed and configured with VPN server software. However, it generally has more logical and physical communication ports. The VPN server provides VPN connection and services to remote and/or local VPN clients. Typically, the VPN server utilizes one or more protocols for connectivity and communications, such as point-to-point protocol (PPP). The VPN client first connects to the VPN server and authenticates itself before being granted access to the VPN.
